Photographs? Talking? You crazy? It’s just a picture, isn’t it? Pictures don’t talk.
But what if they did?
Welcome to If photographs could talk, a new initiative run by Kirkgate Arts aimed at stimulating writers of all ages (aged 10 to adult) and levels of experience to ‘find a voice’ for a series of historical photographs. The Cockermouth Heritage Group is part of Kirkgate Arts, and holds a rich collection of documents, images and artefacts relating to the history of Cockermouth and the surrounding area. Kirkgate Arts has employed local writer Lucy Burnett to design a series of writing prompts over the course of the Autumn which invite you to respond to these images in imaginative ways
In the video below, Lucy introduces the project, and provides some details about her own background and interests, plus a warm-up writing exercise to get the creative juices flowing.
